Colonoscopy (videocolonoscopy)

Effective examination of the large intestine under medical sleep.

1. Why is colonoscopy vital and what is it?

Videocolonoscopy (CS) — is a highly precise endoscopic examination method that allows the doctor to inspect the lining of the large intestine in detail from the inside using a special flexible scope (colonoscope).

A well-cleansed bowel allows the doctor to carefully inspect the mucous membrane, identify even tiny polyps or early forms of colon cancer and, if necessary, remove them immediately. Quality preparation significantly increases the accuracy of the colonoscopy and can eliminate the need for a repeat examination.

2. Low-residue diet 3 days before the exam

It is recommended to switch to a low-residue diet 3 days before the colonoscopy.

Allowed food and drinks:

  • boiled meat and fish;
  • eggs;
  • white bread or toasts;
  • rice, semolina porridge;
  • plain dairy products without additives;
  • clear broths.

Forbidden food and drinks:

  • vegetables and fruits;
  • berries;
  • greens, mushrooms, nuts;
  • seeds, legumes;
  • black bread;
  • whole grain porridges.

3. What to eat and drink the day before?

Only clear liquids are allowed:

  • water, weak tea;
  • clear broth;
  • apple juice without pulp;
  • clear sports drinks.

Milk, kefir, juices with pulp, and alcohol are not allowed.

4. Eziclen intake schedule

The split-dose scheme of preparation provides the best result.

If colonoscopy is scheduled for the morning

  • The evening before (18:00–20:00): drink the first dose of Eziclen according to instructions, and then drink about 1 liter of clear liquid.
  • The morning of the examination (4–5 hours before the procedure): take the second dose of the drug, and then drink 1 liter of clear liquid again.

All liquids must be finished at least 2 hours before sedation or procedure (unless your doctor has given other recommendations).

If colonoscopy is scheduled for the afternoon

The first dose can be taken in the morning, and the second one a few hours later, following the detailed recommendations of your doctor.

5. Important recommendations during preparation

  • Drink enough fluids during preparation to avoid dehydration.
  • If you constantly take blood thinners, blood sugar-lowering drugs, or insulin, be sure to inform your doctor in advance.
  • In case of severe nausea or vomiting, contact medical staff.
